چکیده

This paper presents new results about digital straight segments, their recognition and related properties. They come from the study of the arithmetically based recognition algorithm proposed by I. Debled-Rennesson and J.-P. Reveillès in 1995 [4]. We indeed exhibit the relations describing the possible changes in the parameters of the digital straight segment under investigation. This description is achieved by considering new parameters on digital segments: instead of their arithmetic description, we examine the parameters related to their combinatoric description. As a result we have a better understanding of their evolution during recognition and analytical formulas to compute them. We also show how this evolution can be projected onto the Stern-Brocot tree. These new relations have interesting consequences on the geometry of digital curves. We show how they can for instance be used to bound the slope difference between consecutive maximal segments.

Faithful polygonal representation of the convex and concave parts of a digital curve

From results about digital convexity, we define a reversible polygon that faithfully represents the maximal convex and concave parts of a digital curve. Such a polygon always exists and is unique in the general case. It is computed from a given digital curve in linear-time using well-known routines: adding a point at the front of a digital straight segment and removing a point from the back of ...

Meaningful Thickness Detection on Polygonal Curve

The notion of meaningful scale was recently introduced to detect the amount of noise present along a digital contour. It relies on the asymptotic properties of the maximal digital straight segment primitive. Even though very useful, the method is restricted to digital contour data and is not able to process other types of geometric data like disconnected set of points. In this work, we propose ...

Computing the Characteristics of a SubSegment of a Digital Straight Line in Logarithmic Time

We address the problem of computing the exact characteristics of any subsegment of a digital straight line with known characteristics. We present a new algorithm that solves this problem, whose correctness is proved. Its principle is to climb the SternBrocot tree of fraction in a bottom-up way. Its worst-time complexity is proportionnal to the difference of depth of the slope of the input line ...

An Arithmetical Characterization of the Convex Hull of Digital Straight Segments

In this paper, we arithmetically describe the convex hull of a digital straight segment by three recurrence relations. This characterization gives new insights into the combinatorial structure of digital straight segments of arbitrary length and intercept. It also leads to two on-line algorithms that computes a part of the convex hull of a given digital straight segment. They both run in consta...

Maximal digital straight segments and convergence of discrete geometric estimators

Discrete geometric estimators approach geometric quantities on digitized shapes without any knowledge of the continuous shape. A classical yet difficult problem is to show that an estimator asymptotically converges toward the true geometric quantity as the resolution increases. We study here the convergence of local estimators based on Digital Straight Segment (DSS) recognition. It is closely l...
